A Christmas getaway in Marbella can be a magical experience for you and your family!
When you think of Marbella, you likely think of blue skies, sun, and sangria, instead of cold mornings, mince pies and eggnog, right?
Well! Fabulous weather aside...and we are experiencing exceptionally good weather this year! We are here to tell you that, The Costa del Sol is just as, if not more magical at Christmas time!
There is just SO much to see and do here at this time of year, with the major towns and smaller villages all taking part with spectacular Christmas lights, shows and markets.
In this weeks mailer we give you some insider knowledge of what a Christmas getaway in Marbella would look like, from the fabulous festivities to some gorgeous ho! ho! holiday rentals, available for this festive season
COSTA CHRISTMAS LIGHTS
All of the little towns up and down the coast go to tremendous effort at Christmas time. One of our favourites is the Plaza de los Naranjos in Old Town Marbella. A truly beautiful display.
The star of the show however, is of course the world famous Malaga Christmas lights. This year the lights will be turned on, on Friday 26th November. The light and sound show will be between 7 and 10pm every evening.
The design for 2021 was a winter forest with giant trees, suns, angels and autumn leaves. Stunning at night and almost as good in broad daylight. For more info see here.
CHRISTMAS ACTIVITIES FOR FAMILIES
The kids and the big kids will love the lights and markets but remember look out for the many nativity scenes set up over the coast as well.
Visit Santa Claus or the Spanish 'Papa Noel' in the La Cañada and Miramar commercial centers. He can also be found parading the streets on Christmas day in Marbella after arriving by boat to Marbella port.
It's great go with the family to an ice rink at xmas. You can find one at Torremolinos and Corte Inglés department store in Malaga along with a toboggan and log-walk.
TOP TIP: Chestnut stalls are traditional during Christmas on the Costa. They create a wonderful smell that floods the streets during December and Christmas in Spain wouldn't be the same without them!
CIRQUE DU SOLEIL ON ICE
The world-famous cirque du Soleil is returning to Malaga this Christmas time to perform Crystal. It promises to have all the usual breath-taking acrobatics and performances, but this time on ice! The arena at the Martin Carpena Sports Stadium will become an ice rink for 9 days from 11 to 18 December. Tickets range from €39 to €92 and are available online here.

BOTANICAL GARDENS
The Christmas garden at the botanical gardens is a must see! It combines the gardens themselves with it's monuments, water features and of course Christmas lights. The 2022 edition is called Stela, A Journey to the East, based on the Wise Men’s journey through Persia, Babylonia and then to Bethlehem.
We love the news that this year all lighting will be LED, in keeping with the national push to save energy.
CHRISTMAS MARKETS!
MARBELLA
In The Plaza Antonio Banderas in Puerto Banus, you will find a gorgeous little xmas market with lots of Christmas gift ideas.
MALAGA
The main Christmas market is located on the Paseo de Parque de Malaga and is one of the biggest Christmas Markets on the Costa del Sol & should definitely not be missed!
MIJAS
La Cala de Mijas International Christmas Fair with food, hot wines, crafts and Christmas treats. Here you will also find carol singing, children’s activities, a parade and even Santa and the 3 wise men!
FUENGIROLA
The Christmas market in Fuengirola takes place in the Plaza de la Constitucion every year and consists of around 17 stalls. They have a carol singing event and there is a Chistmas panto at the Salon Varieties.
TORREMOLINOS
In the central Plaza Costa del Sol in Torremolinos there will be a Christmas market with a Father Christmas house and some children’s attractions during the month of December and until January.
